Aeroplanes
The
greatest development to transport was the invention of the aeroplane.
We can now travel to distant places in a few hours where at one time it
would have taken weeks.
The
first heavier than air aircraft was flown by the Wright brothers in 1903.
To get the right idea for their craft, they made hundreds of paper aeroplanes
models.
In 1901 they had already made hundreds of wind tunnel tests. In 1902 , their
flying glider was the biggest flying machine ever to be built.
This is what Oliver Wright wrote. "We now hold all the records for flight."
It was the largest
machine at that time to leave the earth's surface. It had the longest time
in the air of any machine.
